The bear likely made its way to eastern Iowa via the Wapsipinicon River, which flows from southeastern Minnesota through eastern Iowa to the Mississippi River, officials said.

“Dry Run Creek would be much cheaper than the Little Wapsipinicon,” Hopkins said.

The service says a flood warning is continuing until Friday for the Wapsipinicon River near DeWitt in eastern Iowa.

The National Weather Service said Thursday morning that the Wapsipinicon River near DeWitt is experiencing moderate flooding, with water reaching more than a foot above flood stage.

Storms dropped up to 15 inches of rain in the Wapsipinicon and Plum Creek watersheds in Chickasaw and Bremer counties.
