Dark clouds loom overhead, the water below glistening in the early-morning light as it carves a path between the brown rocks of Oregon’s Wallowa Mountains and Idaho’s Seven Devils Mountains.

These were the stately and magnificent Wallowa Mountains, nestled next to Hells Canyon, North America’s deepest gorge at nearly 8,000 feet, and the dividing line between Idaho and Oregon.

Sunsets in the northeast Oregon locale are reliably amazing, with rainbow hues stretching across fields of wildflowers to the striking Wallowa Mountains.

Other wildfires likely to be impacted include the Rum Creek fire in southwest Oregon above the Rogue River, and the Double Creek, Sturgill and Nebo fires in the Wallowa Mountains of northeast Oregon.

The appointment-only museum occupies an unassuming storefront across the street from a buzzy pizza restaurant and popular chocolate shop, smack in the middle of a popular tourist town at the base of the Wallowa Mountains.
