The raceway is hosting the National Hot Rod Assn. finals from Thursday through Sunday.

The main grandstands, front straight, pit road and pit road suites, which are all that remain of the old raceway, are to be incorporated into the new racing venue.

Production typically occurs in so-called raceway ponds beneath the open sky or in photobioreactors chambers, where the organisms grow in glass tubes.

“There’s a sense of impunity among some drivers,” says Steve Strachan, executive director of the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs, “who are treating Washington’s roads like they’re a raceway.”

The land became too valuable for the raceway’s owners to resist selling in 1989, and now a mall sits where cars roared.
