He brings �sop to Babylon, in the reign of king Lycerus, a king of his own making; for his name is not to be found in any catalogue, from Nabonassar to Alexander the Great; Nabonadius, most probably, reigning in Babylon about that time.

To all appearance, however, he was not recognized by the Babylonians themselves as king, Nabonassar being then on the throne.

Nabonassar, the king of that country, had died, and been succeeded by his son, Nabû-nadin-zēri, who, however, only reigned two years, and gave place to Nabû-šum-ukîn, who murdered him.

When speaking of the eclipses which were observed at Babylon, Ptolemy gives a list of Babylonian kings, with the length of their reigns, from the so-called era of Nabonassar, in b.c.

Era of Nabonassar.—This era is famous in astronomy, having been generally followed by Hipparchus and Ptolemy.
