Briefly, the Purim holiday tells the story of Haman, advisor to the Persian king, who plots to kill all the Jews in the Empire.

“It was a tremendous mortality and a tremendous loss,” said Haman, estimating more than 80% of the Caspian terns on the island were killed by the disease.

“Even though cottontails are not native, native species have probably come to rely on them,” Haman says.

Everyone dresses up as Queen Esther, her husband the king, or Haman.

“It’s a miracle for Jews that Haman died,” he said.
