South Africa has previously said that Trump has misunderstood the country's new land expropriation act.

"This history teaches us that true redress requires protecting property rights, ensuring that no government is ever given unchecked expropriation powers ever again," the party said in a statement.

South Africa's new law allows for expropriation without compensation only in circumstances where it is "just and equitable and in the public interest" to do so.
