In a report by the Tony Blair Institute, Sir Tony argues that the expected global rise in fossil fuel use and the doubling of airline travel over the next 20 years undermines current climate policies.

On a visit to Manila last month, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said Washington was "doubling down" on its alliance with the country and was determined to "re-establish deterrence" against China.

That will include doubling examiner training capacity by summer 2026 to ensure newly recruited driving examiners can qualify "as quickly as possible".

However, Leadbeater has proposed doubling this to four years, to allow more time to set up training and systems for what would be an entirely new service.
