The issue comes as new figures from the UK's Advertising Standards Authority suggest fake adverts featuring celebrities and public figures remain the most common type of scam adverts appearing online.

The additional declaration may swerve X’s guidelines but it doesn’t bypass the U.K.’s Advertising Standards Authority, which has reportedly begun monitoring Stake’s X campaign.

Its clubs are required to adhere to all legal and regulatory requirements, via the Gambling Commission and the Advertising Standards Authority.

The UK Advertising Standards Authority has previously pledged to clamp down on misleading environmental claims, while the European Union recently announced a new law to tackle the problem.

The Advertising Standards Authority said it was currently reviewing the complaints, but had so far not initiated a formal investigation into the matter.
