This woman's outfit harks back to colonial times and is dressed as a giant British West Africa penny from the reign of UK monarch George VI. Nigeria gained its independence from Britain in 1960.

The necklace was previously worn by the Marquess of Anglesey at Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953, and it was also worn 16 years earlier at King George VI's crowning.

There are also bronze statues of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth - parents of the late Queen - not too far from the proposed location.

“Eighty years ago on D-Day, the 6th of June 1944, our nation – and those which stood alongside it – faced what my grandfather, King George VI, described as the supreme test,” Charles said.

In return, King Charles read a diary extract written by his grandfather, King George VI, documenting the events of 6 June 1944.
